McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the Bethany College Swedes on Saturday, April 24, at the McPherson High School Tennis Center in McPherson, Kan. The loss snaps a two match winning streak and drops MC to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Bethany improves to 9-3 and a perfect 6-0 in the KCAC.

McPherson got down early by capturing only one of three doubles matches. At the No. 1 spot, freshman Igor Guasti and Ronaldo Filho won their fourth straight KCAC match by defeating Shane Higgins and Kody Koester 8-6.

The Bulldogs hoped to carry the momentum of Guasti and Filho’s match into singles play, but proved unable. At the No. 1 spot, Vyacheslave Bukatin lost only his second contest of the season with a 7-5, 6-3 defeat by Shan Huggins.

Guasti pushed Swede No. 4 Fernando Paiva to the limit in the second set, but could not send it to a third. Guasti lost the match, 6-3, 7-5.

Bethany continued on to sweep all singles positions.

The Bulldogs return to the court for their final regular season match of the season on Monday, April 26, when they host Kansas Wesleyan University at the McPherson City Courts. The match, which was originally scheduled for April 22, is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
