Bulldogs fall in semifinal round of KCAC tournament

Wichita, Kan. – After dropping three doubles points to open the morning, the No. 4 seed McPherson College men’s tennis team was unable to comeback against No. 1 Bethany College falling by the score of 5-0 in the semifinal round of the KCAC men’s team tennis tournament. With the loss, McPherson dropped to 6-5 on the season.

The No. 1 pairing of Igor Guasti and Ronaldo Filho pushed Shane Huggins and Kody Koester at the No. 1 doubles position, opening the match with a 3-1 advantage. However, Huggins and Koester stormed back winning seven of the next ten games to steal the match 8-6.

In other doubles action, the Bulldog No. 2 group of Vyacheslav Bukatin and Jordan Rothrock played a strong second half, but could not recover from their slow start as they dropped 8-5, while No. 3’s Nathan Clary and Kyle Toland fell 8-1.

In singles, Kyle Toland was the first Bulldog off the court falling to Caleb Jeff 6-0, 6-4, at the No. 6 spot. No. 5 Nathan Clary was the fifth and final Bulldog to fall, 6-2, 6-2, to Derek Watson at No. 5. McPherson was leading in the No. 1 and 2 singles positions, but those matches were left unfinished.
