The Matchup
The McPherson College women’s soccer team plays host to Manhattan Christian College in a midweek match, Wednesday night at McPherson Stadium in McPherson, Kan. Kickoff is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and live stats will be available at www.macbulldogs.com.
The Bulldogs (0-1-1) stumbled out of the gate in 2010 with a loss to Concordia University, but returned to form last Saturday, drawing against a talented University of Sioux Falls team, 2-2.
Haley Cook (Littleton, Colo.),
Amanda Aragon (Thornton, Colo.), and
Kourtney Mitchell (Silt, Colo.) lead the team with two points each, while
Richelle Mascaro (Tujunga, Calif.),
Brittany Coxsey (Durant, Okla.) and
Ana Calderon (Lone Tree, Colo.) rank second with one point.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) has recorded 15 saves (.789 percentage), while allowing four goals in 200 minutes between the pipes this season.
Following Manhattan Christian, McPherson continues its home stand against Briar Cliff University on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
Last week for the Bulldogs
McPherson went 0-1-1 last week in home matches against Concordia University and the University of Sioux Falls. In Saturday’s draw, MC’s Kourtney Mitchell received a clearing ball from Brittany Coxsey and dribbled nearly 60 yards before beating the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation. Mitchell’s goal tied the score after McPherson found themselves trailing 2-0 following the first half. McPherson tallied seven shots against the USF defense.
In Wednesday’s loss to Concordia, CU’s Jamie Sanchez notched a pair of first half goals, including a rebound in the final seconds of the first half to propel the Bulldogs to the 2-1 win. Senior Amanda Aragon recorded MC’s lone goal in the 11th minute. CU outshot McPherson 17-9.
Scouting MCC
The Crusaders (0-3-0) have stumble out of the gate with losses coming against Ottawa University, Bethany College and Sterling College. MCC’s most lopsided defeat came against Ottawa University as the Braves scored seven goals, while allowing none.
MCC ended its 2009 season in impressive fashion with a 2-0 win over Southeastern University (Fla.) in the NCCAA D-II National Championship. The win was the MCC’s 10th of the season and capped a five match winning streak to end the year.
Manhattan Christian is coached by Eric Ingmire. Ingmire is in entering his four season at the helm of the women’s soccer program. During his tenure, he has compiled a 28-21-4 record, including a 2009 National Championship. Following the 2009 season, Ingmire was named Coach of the Year.
Series Breakdown
McPherson is 4-0-1 in its last five matchups with the Crusaders, inlcuding a 2-0 win a year ago. The Bulldogs most lopsided victory came in 2006, when MC scored five unanswered goals en route to a 5-0 victory. The Bulldogs have outscored MCC by the count of 13-0 during the stretch.
