Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) posted her first career hat trick, as the McPherson College women’s soccer team maintained a chance at a share of the Kansas Collegiate Atheltic Conference regular season championship with a 3-0 victory at Southwestern College on Wednesday night.
The victory improves MC to 9-7-1 overall and 6-1-1 in KCAC play, while the Moundbuilders fall to 8-7-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the league. The Bulldogs now rest one game behind KCAC leading Kansas Wesleyan University, who tied with Ottawa University earlier in the day.
McPherson jumped to an early 1-0 lead following Gray’s first goal of the match in the fifth minute. She continued her dominant play throughout the remainder of the period and into the second half with scores in the 53
rd and 62
nd minutes en route to the first hat trick of her career. With her performance, Gray becomes the first Bulldog this season to reach double-figure goals with 10.
In addition to Gray, sophomore goalkeeper
Tori Verdieck (New Castle, Colo.) posted her third consecutive shutout with one save in 90 minutes of action.
McPherson returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they host rival Kansas Wesleyan University at 12:30 p.m. (CST). The victory by the Bulldogs will give MC a share of the KCAC regular season championship.
