McPherson, Kan. – Senior
Ashley Huizar (La Puente, Calif.) and sophomore
Aspen Frey (Newton, Kan.) earned All-KCAC honors, as the McPherson College men’s and women’s cross country teams concluded their 2011 regular season on Saturday at the KCAC Championships, held at Wall Park in McPherson, Kan.
Frey led the Bulldog women, who finished fifth out of nine teams, with a ninth place individual finish to earn All-KCAC honors and garners a trip to Vancouver, Wash. for the NAIA National Championhips in two weeks. Frey covered the 5K course in 20:17.33. Huizar, the second finisher for the Bulldogs, earned All-KCAC honorable mention with a time of 20:52.86, good for 14
th place.
Senior
Lizette Guzman (Montebello, Calif.) rounded out the MC top finishers, running the course in 21:59.58 to place 28
th.
Friends University claimed the team championship with six runners in the top 10, including a sweep of the first through fourth positions. Friends senior Jordan Arnold claimed the individual championships with a time of 18:21.19.
On the men’s side, senior
David Parry (Morganville, Kan.) was the team’s tops finisher, placing 20
th overall, running the 8K course in 28;25.23. Sophomore
Preston Mossman (McPherson, Kan.) was second for McPherson with a time of 29:17.06 to take 34
th, while senior
Josh Nilles (Goddard, Kan.) earned 53
rd place with a time of 31:06.33 and senior Cody Compton took 58
th place with a time of 31:44.61.
As a team, the Bulldogs finished tied for seventh out of10 teams with 205 points.
Friends, much like the women, claimed the team crown with 27 total points to knock off long time champion Southwestern College who finished second with 43 points. Former McPherson College runner, Javier Ceja won the individual men’s championship with a time of 26:13.87. Ceja is currently running for Friends.
