McPherson, Kan. – The third-seeded McPherson College women’s soccer team continues its run in the KCAC Women’s Soccer Championships with a trip to No. 2 seed Ottawa University on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. (CT). The KCAC Broadcast Network will provide live video coverage of the semifinal round matchup between the Bulldogs and Braves, while live stats will be available through DakStats.
The Bulldogs (10-8-1, 6-2-1 KCAC) enter the matchup following a dominating victory against sixth-seeded Bethel College in the quarterfinals, 3-1, as junior midfielder
Rachael Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded her first career hat trick with goals at 1:17, 48:41 and 85:00. As a team, McPherson dominated possession, outshooting Bethel 17-6, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Bethel’s score came in the 66
th minute on a Bulldog defensive breakdown.
McPherson and Ottawa battled to a 0-0 draw in their first meeting on Oct. 8. The Braves, despite the outcome, controlled the tempo a majority of the match, as OU outshot the Bulldogs 27-8, including 15 shot in the second half. McPherson goalkeeper
Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) made 10 saves in 110 minutes to earn the shutout.
Ottawa (8-7-3, 6-1-2) enters the contest with a 6-0-2 mark in their last eight matches, including a 1-1 draw against nationally ranked Kansas Wesleyan University on Oct. 26. The Braves closed the regular season with a dominating, 5-1, win against Friends University that included a hat trick from midfielder Amanda Just.
The winner of Tuesday’s contest will advance to the tournament championship to play the winner of No. 1 seed Kansas Wesleyan University and No. 4 seed Southwestern College. Kickoff for the title match is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CT) at Anderson Stadium in Lindsborg, Kan.
