McPherson, Kan. – In a classic pitching duel that saw only six hits and three runs through seven innings, the McPherson College baseball team fell, 3-0, in its home opener against Sterling College on Friday night.
After a scoreless three innings, Sterling’s aggressive base running led to a pair of runs after Jerrod Spillers coaxed a walk to lead off the inning. The Warriors added a third run in the sixth to earn the 3-0 win.
Despite a solid performance, junior left-hander Caleb Hartman earned the loss. Hartman pitched seven innings allowing three runs on two hits, while striking out three and walking five.
Hunter Abercrombie, Steven Paramore, William Waltenburg and Justin Roark combined for McPherson’s four hits, all singles.
Due to inclement weather conditions, game two of the double header was postponed until Monday.
McPherson returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Sterling College for the away portion of the KCAC series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CST.
