The McPherson College men’s and women’s tennis teams opened their season with losses at Emporia State University on Saturday. The men fell 8-1, while the women dropped a 9-0 decision.

Men’s No. 1 singles player Vyacheslav Bukatin won the lone match of the day for the Bulldogs, as the defending KCAC individual champion defeated Nick Stiefer 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).

At the No. 3 and No. 4 positions Ronaldo Filho and Igor Guasti took both their matches into a second set tie break, but were unable to overcome Mitch Kibbe and Andrew Konetzni.

The Hornets’ swept the men’s doubles positions.

On the women’s side, McPherson was swept in the double and singles as Emporia took the decision 9-0.

Both men’s and women’s squads will return to the court on March 11-12 when they participate in the Bethel College Invitational. First serve of the event is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m.
