Men’s Tennis Remains Perfect in KCAC Play with Win against Southwestern

The McPherson College men’s tennis team posted a 9-0 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Southwestern College on Monday afternoon, while the women dropped a heart breaker, 5-4.

With the win, McPherson’s men improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the KCAC, while Southwestern falls to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in league play. On the women’s side, the Bulldogs fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action, while the Moundbuilders improve to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the KCAC.

In the men’s match, McPherson won all three doubles matches, 8-2, 8-2, 8-4, to cruise to a quick 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs continued their domination in singles action with no one surrendering more than four games en route to a 6-0 sweep of singles competitions.

On the women’s side, McPherson No. 3 doubles partners Jessica Vincent (Hutchinson, Kan.) and Sarah Ehrlich (Augusta, Kan.) won the Bulldogs lone doubles match. McPherson added three addition points as Vincent (6-3, 6-2), Ehrlich (6-0, 6-0) and Kiara Mathis (Hays, Kan.) (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) won their singles matches. However, the Bulldogs failed to gain the winning point as the Moundbuilders edged MC, 5-4.

McPherson returns to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Cowley Community College. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
