McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s tennis team recovered from its Saturday loss to Bethany College with a 9-0 home sweep of Kansas Wesleyan University Monday afternoon at the McPherson High School Tennis Center.
With the win, McPherson improves to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the Coyotes fall to 2-13 overall and 0-4 in the league.
The Bulldogs won all three doubles matches to open the afternoon before sweeping the singles competitions. No. 3 doubles pairing of junior Kyle Toland (Edwardsville, Kan.) and freshman Alex Jenkner (Dodge City, Kan.) won the tightest match of the day, 8-6, over Kendal Barlow and John Haynes of KWU.
In singles play, sophomore Vyacheslav Bukatin (Moscow, Russia) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Alejandro Casanova to improve to 4-0 in conference matches.
McPherson returns to action on Thursday, April 21 when they host Friends University at the McPherson High School Tennis Center. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. with singles matches to follow.
