McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s tennis team guaranteed themselves the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 7-2 victory over Bethel College on Saturday morning at the McPherson High School Tennis Center.
With the win, McPherson improves to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in KCAC play, while the Threshers fall to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in the league.
The Bulldogs opened the morning with a sweep of the doubles matches, including a 9-8 win by MC’s No. 2 duo of Ronaldo Filho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Igor Guasti (Vitoria-ES, Brazil).
McPherson sealed the victory with wins in the top four positions, as Vyacheslav Bukatin (Moscow, Russia) extends his conference win streak to six matches with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Nathan Dick at No. 1 singles.
The most exciting match of the day came at No. 2 singles, as McPherson’s Filho dropped the first set, 4-6, to Ben Moore before battled back to take the next two, 7-5, 6-0 to earn the win.
McPherson returns to action on Friday, April 29 when they participate in the KCAC Individuals Tournament before opening KCAC tournament play on Thursday, May 5.
