The McPherson College men’s tennis team opened Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 5-4 win at Tabor College on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, McPherson improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in KCAC action, while the Blue Jays fall to 4-7 and 0-1 in conference.

The Bulldogs fell behind early, dropping two of the three doubles matches. MC’s lone doubles victory came at the No. 1 position, as sophomore Vyacheslav Bukatin (Moscow, Russia) and freshman Thiago Da Silva (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) defeated David Simmet and Mike Jaderston, 8-3.

Despite the early deficit, McPherson bounced back with a sweep of the top four singles position, including an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 by sophomore Ronaldo Filho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and 6-1, 6-2 victory by Da Silva at No. 3.

Sophomore Igor Guasti (Vitoria-ES, Brazil) scored the match-clinching win with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Cory Simms at No. 4.

McPherson returns to the court on Friday, April 8 when they host Newman University at the McPherson High School Tennis Center. Doubles action is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. with singles matches to follow.
