Men's Soccer | 9/11/2011 6:43:00 PM

Box Score

McPherson, Kan. – Four different Bulldogs scored goals, as the McPherson College men’s soccer team rolled past Morningside College, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at McPherson Stadium.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 2-2-0 on the season, while Morningside falls to 2-3-0.

McPherson struck first as Juan Garcia (Reno, Nev.) pressured the goalkeeper into a mistake that allowed Garcia to take one touch and slot the ball in the back of the net to give MC a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

The Bulldogs took advantage of another Morningside defensive miscue 15 minutes later when Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) tackled the ball from the Mustang’s center defender before connecting with Sebastian Toro (Granada Hills, Calif.) who was making a run up the far side. Toro placed the shot far post to extend the lead to 2-0.

Morningside cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 33rd minute, but the McPherson pressure proved too strong down the stretch. The Bulldogs went on to add goals by Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) and Michael Phillips (Spring Branch, Texas) in the 44th and 55th minutes en route to the victory.

As a team, McPherson attempted 26 shots with nine on frame, while holding the Mustangs to nine shots with five on goal. The Bulldogs also held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Blake Jett (Fort Worth, Texas) recorded four saves in 90 minutes of play. Phillips led MC with five shots (two on goal), while Cortez and Sam Tucker (Thornton, Colo.) attempted four, respectively.

McPherson returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Manhattan Christian College (Kan.). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CST) in Manhattan, Kan.
