Hays, Kan. – The Bulldogs fell under heavy pressure the entire night, as the McPherson College women’s soccer team fell to Fort Hays State University, 3-0, Wednesday at the FHSU Soccer Stadium. The loss is the third for the Bulldogs against NCAA Division II opponents.
With the loss, McPherson falls to 2-5 overall, while Fort Hays improves to 2-4-1 on the year.
Hays controlled possession the entire night, out shooting McPherson 22-6, including a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal. Additionally, the Tigers held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when Jamie Babyak connected on a 30-yard free kick. McPherson continued to battle, but tallied only two shots in the opening period.
Hays notched two additional goals in the second half, while holding McPherson without a shot attempt until the 78th minute en route to the victory.
Freshman forward Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) led MC with three shots, while sophomore Kyle Stewart (Topeka, Kan.) recorded two shots, respectively. Junior goalkeeper Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) made 12 saves in the effort.
McPherson returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they host Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Eagles is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (CST) at McPherson Stadium.
