McPherson, Kan. –
The Bulldogs controlled the tempo the entire match, as the McPherson College men’s soccer team collected a 2-1 win over No. 25 Oklahoma Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon at McPherson Stadium. The win extends McPherson streak to four games.

The victory improves McPherson to 5-2-0 overall on the season, while the Eagles drop to 6-3-0.

McPherson struck first in the eighth minute when freshman midfielder Heriberto Garcia (Dallas, Texas) bent a free kick around the Oklahoma Wesleyan wall and into the back of the net. The Eagle goalkeeper never had an opportunity on the ball.

The Bulldogs scored the eventual game winner in the 36th minute as senior Tarek Khalidi (Augusta, Kan.) headed home his second goal in the last three matches. Junior Jared Kientz (Derby, Kan.) set up the score with a long throw into the penalty area that was flicked on by junior Michael Phillips (Spring Branch, Texas). Both Kientz and Phillips were awarded assists on the play.

McPherson entered the first half locker room with six shots, including five on goal.

The Bulldogs played a defensive second half that frustrated the Eagles. Oklahoma Wesleyan continually attempted to flight balls into the MC backline with little to no success. However, the Eagles broke through in the 84th minute on a penalty kick following a Bulldog foul. The score cut the MC lead to 2-1, but was too little too late.

As a team, McPherson tallied 12 shots with seven on goal, including a team-high three from Khalidi.

Junior goalkeeper Nathan Garrison (Wichita, Kan.) recorded seven saves in 90 minutes of action to record his first win with the Bulldogs.

Lucas Almeida led Oklahoma Wesleyan offensively with four shots, including three on goal.

Eight yellow cards were awarded in the match.

McPherson returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Central Christian College. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. (CST).
