McPherson, Kan. – Goal keeper Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) tallied his third shutout of the year as he and the McPherson men’s soccer team held off Friends University, winning 1-0. The victory brings MC’s record up to 6-4-1 for the season and 1-2 in the conference.
MC was full strength on Wednesday for the first time in three games, bringing three starters back to the pitch and the chemistry showed with the Bulldogs taking 26 total shots, nine on, but they were only able to score one goal. MC showed the most offensive creativity they have all year, creating the most scoring options they have had all season, but could not put the ball past the Friends keeper more than once. Christian Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.) was that sole Bulldog who was able to score, assisted by Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) in the second minute of the game.
The 88 minutes that followed the goal was an aggressive contest with McPherson putting up two shots for every one of Friends. Eight cards were given during that time with MC garnering two. Falcon midfielder Rodrigo Barbosa was given two cards himself, getting a red with less than two minutes left in the game.
Both Rodriguez and Nuthall took five shots in the win to lead McPherson. Heriberto Garcia (Dallas, Texas) recorded four shots and put two on target. Six other Bulldogs put a ball towards the goal on Wednesday.
Parrott logged six saves in his 90 minute shutout.
McPherson stays at home for their next competition, taking on the Spires of the University of Saint Mary on Saturday, October 13. The afternoon match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. (CT)
