McPherson, Kan. – McPherson volleyball nearly pulled off its third-straight sweep on Wednesday, taking down the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College 3-1.  The win brings MC to 9-22 overall and 6-8 in the KCAC, placing them sixth the standings.

The Lady Bulldogs came out a little flat-footed in the match, allowing the Lady Builders to control the pace of the opening game.  The two teams traded points for the majority of the game until MC made a 7-3 run to finish the first set 25-20.

Game two was a different start for McPherson as they were now the aggressors, taking it to SWC from the get-go.  The Moundbuilders tried to hang with MC but couldn’t overcome a 10-3 Bulldog run giving Mac the cushion they needed to coast to a comfortable 25-19 win.

McPherson thought they had an easy sweep on their hands heading into game three but Southwestern had a different idea as they stormed out of the gate, scoring the first three points.  The Lady Moundbuilders kept that distance on MC for most of the game, taking it at 25-17.

A 10-3 start for game four pretty much sealed the deal for the Lady Bulldogs as SWC could only get within four points once.  McPherson cruised with a 14-6 run to finish the game 25-13.

Two Bulldogs made it into double figures for kills with freshman Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) leading the way with 12; Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) finished the match with 11 and also had five total blocks, two solo, for a total of 19.6 points.  Sophie Simon (McPherson, Kan.) tallied six blocks, four assisted, to go with her seven points.

Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) will need to ice her hands after this match as she posted 22 assists; she also had two kills and seven digs in the victory.

A trip up to Ottawa, Kan., awaits the Lady Bulldog volleyball team as they will take on the Lady Braves of Ottawa University on October 27th at 6:00 p.m. (CT)
