Box Score
North Newton, Kan. – In the last game of the 2012 regular season, McPherson women’s soccer took down the Lady Threshers of Bethel College 2-0. The win puts MC at 5-4 in the conference and in a three-way tie for third with Sterling and Saint Mary. As McPherson defeated both those squads, they land the third seed in the KCAC tournament.
The
Samantha Peterson (Olathe, Kan.) to
Amy Stockton (Manhattan, Kan.) formula that worked a couple of weeks ago, worked again for McPherson as that was the combination for the first score of the game, coming in the 25 minute. Less than 10 minutes later,
Nikae Easterling (Colorado Springs, Colo.) came off the bench and scored her first goal of the season. The game went scoreless for the remaining 54 minutes, giving MC their seventh win of the season.
Of McPherson’s 19 shots against the Lady Threshers, 11 were on target and two made it past the keeper for goals.
Kelli Hlushak (Loveland, Colo.),
Gabriela Navarro (Wichita, Kan.) and
Rebekah Gallegos-Romero (Colorado Springs, Colo.) each shot the ball three times and put two on frame, leading the team in both categories.
Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) didn’t have a chance to make a save on Tuesday as Bethel didn’t put a single shot on target and only took three shots total.
McPherson will now host a KCAC Tournament quarterfinal game on Friday, November 2
nd. That match will be against the Lady Moundbuilders of Southwestern College who MC faced less than a week ago. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT) at McPherson Stadium. The winner of that contest will face Ottawa University on Tuesday the 6
th.
