Emporia, Kan. The McPherson College Men’s Tennis won their second straight match with a solid victory over the Emporia State University Hornets. The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead after the doubles competition and never looked back. McPherson got doubles points from the number one duo of Vyacheslav Bukatin (Moscow, Russia) and Torsten Keil-Long (Claremont, Calif.) and number three duo of Jordan Stewart (Sterling, Kan.) and Sean De Young (Anaheim, Calif.). McPherson looked to sweep the doubles points but the number two doubles team from Emporia came back from down 3-6 to defeat Mark Mahan (Fullerton, Calif.) and Thiago Da Silva (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) 8-6.
In singles action it was all McPherson as the Bulldogs did not surrender a set. Mark Mahan and Thiago Da Silva made up for their loss in doubles by dispatching their singles opponents 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2, respectively. Slav Bukatin had the toughest match of the day but was able to stay focused and played steady to dispatch a quality opponent in Andrew Davids 6-4, 6-2.
The Bulldogs travel to Shawnee Oklahoma next week to take on Oklahoma Baptist University at a match to be played at 12:00pm.
