Wichita, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s tennis team traveled to Wichita to take on the Friends University Falcons for their second KCAC Conference match on April 9th. It was all Bulldogs as McPherson settled the match early soon after doubles, winning 9-0.
The Falcons put up some resistance in doubles, but the Bulldogs were able to settle down quickly and secure all of the matches in their favor taking a 3-0 lead going into singles. Friends made it interesting at number one doubles breaking the Bulldogs serve but McPherson quickly came back and secured the match.
In singles, the bottom half of the Bulldog line up wrapped up the match for McPherson with sophomore Sean De Young (Anaheim, Calif.) taking his opponent down 6-0, 6-1 and freshman Jordan Stewart (Sterling, Kan.) clinching the match for the Bulldogs with his point at number six singles 6-1, 6-0. Junior Vyacheslav Bukatin (Moscow, Russia) had the most challenging match of the day having to come from behind against his opponent. After securing the first set 6-3, Bukatin found himself down in the second set 1-4 off of uncharacteristic mistakes. The veteran Bulldog quickly righted the ship as he dug in and did not surrender another game and reeled off five games straight. The rest of the Bulldog squad made quick work of their opponents with Mark Mahan (Fullerton, Calif.), playing in the top spot, defeated his opponent quickly 6-2, 6-0; Torsten Keil-Long (Claremont, Calif.) dismissed his opponent 6-2, 6-0; and Thiago Da Silva (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) took out his opponent 6-2, 6-1.
The Bulldogs have a few days off before traveling to Salina to take on Southwestern Christian University at 1:00 p.m. (CT) and Kansas Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. (CT)
