Lady Bulldog Soccer Puts Up 48 Shots, Win 4-0

McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s soccer team put on an offensive clinic on Wednesday as they defeated Manhattan Christian College 4-0.  The victory pushes MC’s record to 2-4-2.

By the 17th minute of the match, McPherson led 3-0 thanks to some nicely placed shots by sophomore Stephanie Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and redshirt freshmanGabriela Navarro (Wichita, Kan.); Cornell had the first two goals of the game.  Nearly 15 minutes into the second period, Navarro put the ball in the back of the net for a second time, making the score 4-0. 

Out of the 48 total shots by the Lady Bulldogs, 16 were on goal.  Navarro led the squad in shots with 11, putting five on target.  Cornell was next with eight, four on goal, followed by Cheyna Buchman (McPherson, Kan.) and Jennifer Carlson (Kansas City, Mo.).

Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) played the first 45 minutes of the match and freshman Makenzie Smith (Rose Hill, Kan.) came in to play the second half.  Neither keeper tallied a save in the contest as no shots on goal were attempted by Manhattan Christian.

The Lady Bulldogs will have to wait a week before their next match which is scheduled for October 3rd against KCAC leading, and No. 15 nationally, Kansas Wesleyan University.  That game is set for 5:00 p.m. (CT) at McPherson Stadium.
