McPherson, Kan. – The women's soccer team at McPherson College squared off Saturday with Ottawa University and appeared out of sync as the Lady Braves defeated MC 3-0.  Mac is now 2-8-1, 1-2 in the conference which is tied for sixth.

"We continue to beat ourselves game after game and today was just another example," stated Coach Talley.  "We came out extremely lethargic and sloppy the first half and by doing so managed to give up yet another own goal.  The second half we woke up a bit and started applying pressure but it was too little too late.  We missed a perfect opportunity to get back in the game with a shot from 12 yards away that would have gotten us back in the game but unfortunately it went straight to the keeper.  Giving up a goal after a poor clearance from a corner kick and then giving up our second own goal of the game deflated any kind of energy we had left."

The Lady 'Dogs struggled to find any offense in the opening period.  Ottawa took one down and scored in the 12th minute to go up 1-0.  McPherson's Cydney Lewis (Ottawa, Kan.) subbed in just under 15 minute into the half and made her presence known quickly as she was the lone Bulldog to test OU's keeper, putting a shot on frame in the 24th minute.

The Lady Braves took their 1-0 lead into halftime.

McPherson began the second period with a bit more energy, taking a couple early shots; none making it on target.  Nearly 50 minutes went by, due to an upped Bulldog defense, before Ottawa found the net for a second time.  But only six minutes passed between OU's second and third goal, which was an own goal by Mac.

Ottawa would hold off the Bulldogs for the rest of the contest, coming out with a 3-0 victory.

Four different McPherson players took the team's four shot attempts on Saturday and three of them found the goalie's gloves.

MC's keeper, Caitlyn Blagrave (Rio Rancho, N.M.), recorded five saves and three goals allowed in the loss.

"We need to do a lot of soul searching right now within our team.  We explained to them after this dismal performance that the conference season isn't over and that they're still in the running.  So far there have been some strange outcomes and I predict more upsets in the conference will be happening soon."

McPherson's next contest will be in Wichita, Kansas when they take on the Friends University Lady Falcons; kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT) on October 16th.
