McPherson, Kan. – MC women's soccer had a rough outing against a very difficult MidAmerica Nazarene crew as the Pioneers put up seven on Mac; the 'Dogs were able to grab two late but couldn't overcome the score gap, losing 7-2.
"We simply got out worked in all aspects of the game tonight," stated Coach Talley. "We gave up two bad goals in the first half to a very tough and talented MidAmerica side but we felt we were still in the game. Giving up an unnecesary PK at the beginning of the second half really deflated the team. After a couple tactical changes we were able to get the run of play the last 15 minutes and put two goals away but it was too little too late"
After surrendering a goal less than 10 minutes in, McPherson settled down and went into halftime down 2-0 to the then 6-1-1 Lady Pioneers.
Coming out of the locker room, MNU turned it up a few notches as they scored five goals in 25 minutes including two in the opening 10 of the second half.
MC got their goals on the feet of Jessica Dominguez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who banged in a Morgan Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) rebound in the 74th minute and then popped another eight minutes later.
13 total shots were taken by Mac in the loss, five were on target. Dominguez logged a team-high four shots. Gabriela Navarro (Wichita, Kan.) put three towards the goal while Hailey Hendrix (Springdale, Ark.) and Haley Anderson (Highland Village, Texas) tallied two.
MidAmerica Nazarene took 20 shots in their win placing eight on frame.
Caitlyn Blagrave (Rio Rancho, N.M.) got the start between the pipes for McPherson but was replaced by Makenzie Smith (Rose Hill, Kan.) nearly 56 minutes into the match. Blagrave records the loss, giving up four goals while pulling down one save. Smith allowed three goals in her 33 minutes of play.
An inner-town rivalry match is next on the docket for MC as they travel to the south side of McPherson for a run with Central Christian College on September 25th; start time is 5:30 p.m. (CT)
