McPherson, Kan. –Inner-city rivalry game between the men's soccer programs of McPherson College and Central Christian College ended in a lopsided 5-0 victory for the Bulldogs pushing them to 3-5 on the year.

"Our boys faced an extremely tough non-conference schedule this season as we faced #14, #15, #18, and #25 nationally," said head men's soccer coach Doug Quint.  "We learned a lot about ourselves throughout these matches.  We got better every day playing against high level of competition but didn't get results we hoped for.  On last Saturday night against #15 MNU we did some really good things and looked brilliant at times.  Tonight against Central we were able to sustain that level of play and see the results.  We certainly stayed organized tonight defensively and dominated the game from the start.  Offensively, we scored goals in a variety of ways and it was sure nice to see the ball find its way in."

It was just 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of play as McPherson searched for some traction; MC's goal was a header by
Rafael Fuentes (Los Angeles, Calif.)  assisted by
Danny Calleja (Oceanside, Calif.).

The second half heated up quickly as
Zack Sudler (Carrollton, Texas) knocked one in off a
Nick Torres (McPherson, Kan.) assist less than two minutes into the period.  A couple minutes later and Sudler returned the favor as he assisted Torres on a goal of his own.

After plenty more shot opportunities by the Bulldogs, Torres found the back of the net a second time, kicking in an
Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) pass; Torres ended the day with five points.
Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) added to the scoring with a goal coming off a penalty kick save by Central's goalie;
Vincent Donato (Canyon Country, Calif.) is credited with the assist on the score as he was the Bulldog who took the PK with less than a minute remaining.

In the 90 minutes of play, McPherson took 27 shots and placed 12 of them on goal.  Torres logged a game-high six shot attempts, four going on target.  Nuthall hit five at the goal with his lone one on frame making it past the keeper.  Frenchman
Kevin Aka (Paris, France) took four shots in the game, putting one on goal.

Freshman goalie
Aaron Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) got the starting nod for McPherson and picked up the win, saving the ball just once as the Bulldog D held Central to just three shot attempts.

McPherson has just over a week of rest and preparation before they begin their 2013 KCAC campaign.  The opening conference match is scheduled for October 5
th at 3:30 p.m. (CT) against the Bethel Threshers; the homecoming contest will be played on the grass field at McPherson College.
