North Newton, Kan. – Too many errors spelled disaster for MC volleyball on Wednesday as they dropped a 3-2 match to Bethel College. After leading the match 2-1, the Lady 'Dogs lost the final two sets; the defeat moved them to 7-10 on the year and 2-6 in the KCAC.
The opening set was close most of the way until the Lady Threshers closed out the set with a 7-1 run, winning 25-18. Set number two was again close but it was McPherson that had the runs when necessary, winning 25-23. The third set was much more Bulldog driven and Mac held off a late Bethel charge to claim a 25-22 victory. After getting down early, BC pushed late and passed McPherson in the final five points, forcing a tiebreak set after their 25-21 win. In the final set, the Lady Threshers came out strong and won 15-11.
Taryn Lee led all players with her 13 kills and also logged four solo blocks; the junior unfortunately had nine errors as well. As a team, McPherson posted 32 errors along with 38 kills on 158 swings for a 3.8 kill percentage. Taylor Johnson recorded a team-high 27 assists along with 12 digs. Mac saw four players tab double-digit digs with Emily Warner leading the way with 22; Maci Grimes had 13 and Lindsay Moss ended the match with 10.
MC has a short trip for their next match as they are scheduled to play Central Christian College on Saturday the 4th; the match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. (CT)
