La Mirada, Calif. – The McPherson College Lady Bulldogs opened their Spring Break Tour in Southern California with a very good team win over the Biola University Eagles. The Ladies took control of the match early and stayed one step ahead of the Eagles to secure the win 6-3.
Playing singles first, the McPherson College Lady Bulldogs shook off a 30 hour train ride to double up on the Eagles and carry a 4-2 lead into the doubles competition. At number three singles, Junior Brooke Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.), made quick work of her opponent to put the Bulldogs on the board first with her 6-1, 6-3 victory. She was soon followed by top 'Dog Emma Sheehan (Fullerton, Calif.) who played steady and confident to down her opponent 6-3, 6-1 and then shortly after followed by doubles partner Brittany Gourlay (Riverside, Calif.) with her 6-1, 6-2 win at number four singles giving McPherson a resounding 3-0 lead. The Eagles got on the board when Senior Ashley Allmon fell at the number six doubles position 6-2, 6-0. Junior Claire Crossman (Orange, Calif.) played steady to stay one step ahead of her opponent to secure another point for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Nikki Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.) had the toughest match of the day pushing her opponent but unfortunately couldn't force a third set when she lost in the second set tie-breaker.
In doubles, the top two doubles teams for the Bulldogs took care of business to secure the win for the Bulldogs. Mac improves their record to 5-2 on the season and prepare to take on the 9th Ranked Lady Lions of Vanguard University which is scheduled for March 19th.
