Wichita, Kan. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced that
Emma Sheehan (Fullerton, Calif.) has earned the first Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors for the 2014 season; the award is based on performances from March 17 - 23.
Sheehan finished 2-2 in #1 Singles and 3-1 in #2 Doubles this week for the Lady Bulldogs. Her singles wins came against Biola University (Calif.) (6-3, 6-1) and Hope International University (Calif.) (6-2, 6-1); Sheehan dropped matches against No. 9 Vanguard University (Calif.) (6-0, 6-1) and No. 12 Westmont College (Calif.) (6-0, 6-0). In doubles play, Sheehan and her partner Brittany Gourlay (Riverside, Calif.) had a signature win over No. 9 Vanguard, 9-7, knocking off a top-10 doubles team. The pair also defeated Biola (8-4) and Hope International (8-0); they lost, 8-4, to Westmont.
Sheehan is 6-3 in singles and 8-1 in doubles this season. The McPherson women's team is 6-4 overall and went 2-2 on the week.
The Lady Bulldogs will have a busy schedule this coming Saturday, March 29 as they host Cowley County Community College for a 10:00 a.m. (CT) match and then travel to Fort Hays State University to play the Tigers at 4:00 p.m.
