McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men's tennis squad started the conference season right, with a 9-0 rout of Tabor College; the Bulldogs did not drop a set in the victory of the Blue Jays.
In doubles, the Bulldogs opened up with a 3-0 lead. The top duo of Rafael Bulnes (Rosmalen, Netherlands) and Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez (Olot, Spain) got the 'Dogs rolling with their quick win 8-2 over their opponents. Freshman Connar Schafer (McPherson, Kan.) and Junior Jaime Roman (Santa Ana, Calif.) followed suit with their win at number three doubles 8-3 and Senior Mark Mahan (Fullerton, Calif.) and Junior Allen Darmawan (Mission Viejo, Calif.) finished up the sweep of the doubles points with their 8-4 victory.
Going into singles with a solid 3-0 lead, the Bulldogs got the victory quickly as Freshman Fajula-Rodriguez took care of his opponent 6-0, 6-2 while Darmawan dominated his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Mac's No. 1 Bulnes got the win for McPherson as he wrapped up his opponent 6-3, 6-1.
The Bulldogs will stay at home with their second conference match of the year when they host #12 Bethany College at McPherson High School. First serve is set for 3:00pm.
