McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College Lady Bulldogs tennis squad opened KCAC play with a win against Tabor College this past Saturday; this is the first conference win for the Lady Bulldogs since 2010.
MC started the day off by sweeping the doubles matches against the Blue Jays. The number three doubles pair of Chandler Short (Edgewood, Texas) and Kara Wright (Wichita, Kan.) picked up their first shut out of the season and started the Lady Bulldogs off with their match win. Dropping only 5 games total, the Bulldogs took a commanding 3-0 lead into singles play.
The Lady 'Dogs had to remain focused and determined in singles as the Kansas wind started to pick up. The Bulldogs took five of the six singles matches. Top dog Emma Sheehan (Fullerton, Calif.) cruised in the first set but had to come from behind in the second to take out her opponent 6-2, 6-4. Junior Brooke Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.) shook off a slow start to eventually overtake her opponent 6-4, 6-1 while sister Nichole Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.) stayed one step ahead of her opponent to score a 6-3, 6-3. Brittany Gourlay (Riverside, Calif.) had little trouble for the Bulldogs, defeating her opponent without dropping a game. Claire Crossman (Orange, Calif.) had to come from behind in the first set and eventually ran away with the match against her opponent 7-5, 6-2.
The Lady Bulldogs remain at home with their second conference match on Monday, April 7 against Bethany College. First serve is scheduled for 3:00pm at McPherson High School.
