Comeback Falls Short for MC Volleyball

Sterling, Kan. – It was another tough five-set loss for Bulldog volleyball.  After dropping the first two sets to Sterling College, McPherson rallied back to win the next two.  The final set went to the Warriors 15-11, giving the 3-2 match to the home team.

After a back and forth open, Sterling used a nine-point run to close out the first set, winning 25-14.

In the second, the two teams battled back-and-forth and pushed the set into overtime; the Warriors ended the set on top, 28-26. 

Mac jumped out in front of the third set and then used a couple of runs to bring the lead to 21-14; a 6-0 run by SC tightened the set but the Bulldogs managed to hold the lead and bring the match to 2-1. 

McPherson scored two for every one of the Warriors in the fourth set, taking it easily 25-15. 

The fifth set was all about runs as each team put a few together; after a tied match at 10-10, Sterling scored five of the next six to win the set 15-11.

Taryn Lee backed up her stellar Monday performance with another solid night, racking up 14 kills and adding in four block assists.  Lexi Kite had nine kills, three aces, and one block assist for 12.5 points.

Rhianna Smith had 18 assists in the five-setter while Maci Schlehuber had 16; Schlehuber led the team in digs with 19 and had three kills and two aces in the match.

Two other Bulldogs hit the double-digit dig mark in Emily Warner, 15, and Molly Kelley, 12.

The next match for McPherson is Senior Night.  The 'Dogs are to take on Tabor College on October 23rd with the JV set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) and varsity at 7:00.
