Game Recap: Baseball |

‘Dogs Split with Nebraska Wesleyan

McPherson, Kan. – After dropping the first game of the doubleheader 10-4, Bulldog baseball showed perseverance in the second as they took down Nebraska Wesleyan University 5-4.  Mac is now 3-9 on the year.

Game 1 – 10-4 NWU

The first batter for the Prairie Wolves started the game with a bang as he knocked one over the right field fence; NWU would then go on to score in six of the seven innings.  The 'Dogs put runs on the board in four innings despite logging just one hit in the game; unfortunately for Mac, they were only able to get one across in each of their four innings, leaving the final score at 10-4.

John Lauts was the Bulldog responsible for the team's sole hit; he also got on once on an error by Nebraska Wesleyan.  Tom Potter and Kyle McDonald each made it on via a walk.

Starting the game on the mound for MC was Gage Calvin, he went four innings before being relieved.  Tyler Lambert, Colter Streck, and Corey Taylor each pitched for one inning to finish out the game.

Game 2 – 5-4 MC

After allowing one run in the top of the first, Mac answered with two in the bottom.  NWU tied it up in the third but the 'Dogs matched the run; the two squads did the same thing in the fourth.  McPherson put up their fifth and final run in the fifth inning, taking a 5-3 lead.  The Prairie Wolves scored one in the sixth but were held scoreless in the seventh, giving Mac their first home win of the year, 5-4.

McDonald was responsible for two of MC's five hits; Reily Martin had one hit and also got hit by a pitch twice to get aboard a team-high three times.  Jimmy Fisher made it on safely twice via walks

Jesse Correll recorded the complete game for the Bulldogs, throwing to 34 batters; he logged six strikeouts, two walks, three earned runs, and one unearned.

MC will play host to MU on Saturday as long as the weather cooperates; start time for the DH with Midland is set for 1:00 p.m. (CT) and the teams will also play Sunday at the same times if Mother Nature allows.
