Emporia, Kan. – It was an intense battle between the McPherson College men's tennis team and the NCAA D-II Emporia State University Hornets on Tuesday. It was match that came down to the wire with the Bulldogs coming out victorious 5-4.
McPherson lost at No. 2 doubles to give ESU a 1-0 advantage; however, the 'Dogs showed their grit in winning the next two. The Carrillo boys, no relation, took No. 3 at 9-7 and then Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez and Ahmed Lahlou took No. 1 at 9-8 (5).
After winning two of the three doubles points, MC needed just three of the five singles matches to claim victory. Hugo Ball-Greene dispatched his opponent 6-3, 7-6 (5) at No. 4 while No. 3 Hector Carrillo Perales triumphed 7-5, 2-6, 6-3; Lahlou won the clinching match 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
McPherson will be back in KCAC action on Saturday, April 4 as they host Kansas Wesleyan University at 11:00 a.m. (CT)
