McPherson, Kan. – It was a two-win day for Bulldog tennis as they swept Southwestern College 9-0 in the morning and then defeated Hesston College 8-1 in the afternoon; Mac did not lose a single set on the day. McPherson stays undefeated in the conference and is now 11-4 on the year.
"I thought that we didn't let up when we had leads and worked hard on every court today," said Coach Stuckey. "If we keep that mentality, we are going to be tough to beat."
The day started with a perfect 3-0 sweep at doubles over SWC with Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez/Ahmed Lahlou going 8-0 to give Mac the early lead. The combo of Hugo Ball-Greene and Allen Darmawan allowed the most points but held on to win 8-5.
In singles, Ball-Greene took down his No. 4 opponent 6-0, 6-0 to put Mac up 4-0; he was not the only Bulldog to win without giving up a game as Lahlou and Jose Maria Carrillo Reina did the same at No. 2 and No 6 singles, respectively. Fajula Rodriguez recorded the fifth point (6-1, 6-2) for the 'Dogs guaranteeing them the win. Hector Carrillo Perales had the longest match of the team as he won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 position.
Against the Larks, Mac dropped their lone point of the day at No. 3 doubles as Pedro Ribes and Gabriel Franca lost 8-6 after a hard fought match. Puneet Dave and Pablo Garcia won with ease at No. 2, 8-2 while the senior duo of Darmawan and Jaime Roman didn't have much more difficulty, winning 8-3.
In singles play, Darmawan was the first to dispatch his opponent 6-3, 6-2 and Roman was quick to follow, winning 6-3, 6-4 at the top position. Dave got the winning point for MC with his victory at No. 3 singles 6-2, 7-5.
McPherson will travel to Hillsboro, Kansas for their next contest as they take on Tabor College on April 13th starting at 2:00 p.m. (CT)
