Game Recap: Softball |

MC Drops Series with Builders

Winfield, Kan. – It was another set of tough games for MC softball as they fell to Southwestern College 9-5, 7-3 on Wednesday.  The team has three doubleheaders left on their schedule for 2015.

Game 1 – 9-5 Southwestern College

In the opening game of the series, both teams zeroed the first inning and then the Lady Builders took a 1-0 lead after the second.  Three more runs in the third put SWC ahead 4-0 heading into the fourth.  Mac netted their first run of the day in the fourth; another couple Bulldogs crossed home in the top of the fifth to put the score at 4-3.  Unfortunately, Southwestern scored four in the bottom half to jump back in front 8-3 with two innings to play.  McPherson would score two in the sixth but it wasn't enough as they fell 9-5.

Getting hits were not an issue for the Lady 'Dogs as they recorded 10 in the game.  Cassandra Moreno and McKenna Deckard each tallied two knocks of the ball to lead the team.  Emily Davis tabbed one hit and recorded one walk to make it safely to first twice; she also led MC in RBI with two.

Amanda Connell pitched the first three and a third innings, recording the loss; she allowed four runs on five hits and a pair of walks.  Kaylee Lozier threw for the final two and two-thirds innings.

Game 2 – 7-3 Southwestern College

Mac was the first club to score in the second game as they netted a run in the opening frame.  Southwestern took the lead after a six-run second.  McPherson gave up just one more run the rest of the way but in the end, the deficit proved too much for the Lady Bulldogs to handle as they lost 7-3.

For the second-straight game, MC again made solid contact with the ball; they tabbed eight hits and also drew three walks.  Simone Donaldson had her best game of the year as she went 3-of-3 including a two-run bomb in the sixth; the junior had another shot to center that fell just short of going over in the fourth.  Davis again got aboard twice, once on a hit and again by being hit; she also tallied her second stolen bag of the day.

Connell again started on the mound for the MC pitching staff; the freshman went just one and two-thirds innings before Lozier came in relief.  Lozier completed the game, allowing just one run on seven hits and a walk.

The Bulldogs are on the road for their next two contests starting with a doubleheader at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas on Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. (CT)
