Game Recap: Softball |

Bulldogs Start KCAC Season in Leavenworth

Leavenworth, Kan. – The 2016 conference season didn't start as planned for the McPherson College softball team as they lost a pair of games to the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Game 1 – L 5-0

It was just one bad inning for Mac that settled the opening game of the series.  After a scoreless first and second, USM put up five runs on five hits and an error in the third inning.

Katie Usdansky got out of a jam in the fourth as the Spires loaded up the bases with zero outs.  The Bulldog D stiffened up and recorded a pop out, strikeout, and groundout to end the inning.

MC had a couple chances in the final inning to put runs on the board but fell short 5-0.

McPherson had five hits in the loss with Azaria Romero leading the charge with a 2-of-3 game.

Sydney Lang started the game on the mound but after the five-inning third, was relieved in the fourth by Usdansky.

Game 2 – L 10-2 – 6 innings

In game two of the day, the Lady 'Dogs had a tough time stringing hits together, not scoring until the fifth.

Saint Mary scored three in the second, third, and fourth innings to put them ahead 9-0 heading into the fifth.  After Mac extended the game with their two runs in the top of the fifth inning, the Spires enforced the run-rule after scoring one in the sixth.

Both Katie Holmes and Cassandra Moreno went 2-of-3 from the plate with Holmes recording one of the team's RBI.  Emily Davis also got on safely twice, once on a hit and again on a walk.

Lang again started the game for the MC pitching staff; she went three innings before Usdansky finished off the game.

The Bulldogs will head up to York, Nebraska for their next contest which is scheduled for March 25th against the York College Panthers; start time for the DH is set for 1:00 p.m. (CT)
