Women's Soccer Shut Out at No. 13 Oklahoma Wesleyan

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (macbulldogs.com) --- The McPherson College women's soccer team was limited to five shots Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 loss at No. 13 Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

The Eagles (11-1-1, 6-0 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) out-shot the Bulldogs (5-6, 2-4 KCAC), 24-5, overall and held a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Lily Murray, Kayla Beaver and Taylor Gross all had goals for Oklahoma Wesleyan. Gross led all players with eight shots, including five on frame.

Dina Der Vartanian (Sierra Madre, Calif., Alverno HS) was the only McPherson player with multiple shots (2), while Ana Guerrero (Graton, Calif., Santa Rosa JC), Juliana Munoz (Antelope, Calif., American River College) and Brooke Russell (Hays, Kan., Barton County CC) each finished with one.

Christie Silber (Simi Valley, Calif., Simi Valley HS) was credited with 13 saves for the Bulldogs.

"Despite another adventure on the bus ride to the game, I thought the girls came out and played very well in the first half," said head coach Mark Olson. "We created three very good opportunities that we just were not able to finish. In the second half, we continued to work hard, but, due to a short bench caused by injuries, we just ran out of gas. I am proud of the team's work ethic today as they never gave up and showed a lot of character. This will be beneficial going into the second half of the conference schedule  as we still have a lot to play for going forward."

The Bulldogs remain on the road for their next two outings, visiting Southwestern on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and Bethany on Saturday, Oct. 21. The Southwestern match is slated for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff, while the Bethany match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
