McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The 21st-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team improved to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) with a 9-0 win over Bethel College Monday afternoon at the McPherson High School courts.
The Bulldogs swept the three doubles matches with
Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez (Catalonia, Spain) and
Hector Carrillo Perales (Barcelona, Spain, Bom Salvador) topping Gabe Johnson and Grant Bellar, 8-2, at the No. 1 spot.
Timo Hoelzmann (Berlin, Germany, Schadow Gymnasium) and
Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceotaller San Miguel) posted an 8-1 win over Tyler Shima and Preston Gapter at No. 3.
Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and
Nicolas Wahl faced the stiffest competition, but ultimately came away with an 8-4 win over Ryan LaCombe and Shawn Bontrager at No. 2.
McPherson quickly locked up the match with 6-0, 6-0 wins by Fajula, Lahlou and Carrillo in the top three singles positions. Wahl battled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Shima at No. 4, while Hoelzmann topped Bontrager, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6. In the final match of the day, Jimenez defeated Bellar, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot.
The Bulldogs return to the courts at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon with a KCAC match at Tabor College (1-9, 0-3 KCAC). McPherson then faces (RV) Bethany College (8-5, 3-0 KCAC) at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lindsborg before going up against NCAA Division I Wichita State University at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
