McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The No. 23-ranked McPherson College women's tennis team clinched the top seed in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) tournament and a share of the regular season league crown with a 9-0 win over Kansas Wesleyan University Thursday afternoon at McPherson High School.
The Bulldogs (7-2, 7-0 KCAC) swept through doubles as
Brittany Zipf (Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, Emmaus College) and
Besa Bwalya (Hoisington, Kan., Hoisington HS) topped Itzi Torres and Paityn Bower, 8-1, at the No. 1 spot, while the tandems of
Lea Striegel (Emmendingen, Germany, Albert-Schweitzer Gymnasium) and
Zoë Bouwmeester (Zutphen, Netherlands, Isendoorn College) at No. 2 and
Deiah Curtis (Great Bend, Kan., Bethany College) and
Madison Hoffman (McPherson, Kan., McPherson HS) at No. 3 posted 8-2 victories.
Curtis gave McPherson a 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of Katie Andrews at No. 6. Bwalya and Striegel followed with 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Zipf added a 6-0, 6-3 win over Torres at No. 1. Bouwmeester toppled Chelsea Bearrick, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4, while Hoffman beat Mallory Lantz, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5 for the final team point.
McPherson, which has won 29 regular-season KCAC matches in a row, closes the regular season Monday evening with a 6 p.m. match against Bethany College (1-7, 1-5 KCAC) at Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg.
