BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (macbulldogs.com) --- The 21st-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) with a 7-0 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan University Wednesday afternoon at Hillcrest Country Club.
The Bulldogs dug a little deeper down the roster against the short-sided Eagles, who only had five players.
Timo Hoelzmann (Berlin, Germany, Schadow Gymnasium) and
Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceotaller San Miguel) combined for an 8-6 win over Alberto Picchi and Antonio Laves at No. 1 doubles, while
Nicolas Wahl and
Paul Weidinger (Leipzig, Germany, Rahu Gymnasium) took the other contested doubles match, 8-2, over DJ Mayer and Alexander Tyrrell.
In singles play Wahl topped Picchi, 6-0, 6-3, at the number one spot, while Jimenez shut out Mayer 6-0, 6-0 at the number two spot. Hoelzmann and Weidinger added straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while
Igor Zapparoli (Sao Paulo, Brazil, Carlos Drummond de Andrade) scored a 6-1, 6-4 win over Tyrrell at No. 5.
As McPherson traveled only five players, no matches were played - and thus no team points awarded - at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
MC Women Receive Forfeit Victory
The Bulldog women were also slated to play the Eagles on Wednesday, but McPherson received a team victory by forfeit due to a lack of available players for Oklahoma Wesleyan. OKWU has just one player on its roster.
