@MacCollegeBSB to Open Bulldog Park Saturday

McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The turf is down, the fences are up, and the dugouts are ready to be occupied.

McPherson College's new baseball/softball complex, Bulldog Park, will host its inaugural games Saturday as the Bulldog baseball team welcomes Kansas Wesleyan University to town for a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) doubleheader beginning at noon.

The complex is located at 936 South Centennial Drive in southeast McPherson, directly south of the Kansas Municipal Utilities complex (2090 East Avenue A) and adjacent to the city's Bremeyer Dog Park.

Festivities begin at 11:45 a.m. with the ceremonial first pitch featuring Bulldog baseball alumni David O'Dell '72, Gregg Stockstill '74, Curt Compagnone '12, and Taylor Werts '14. O'Dell, currently a Professor of Accounting at the College, pitched for the Bulldogs in the late 1960s, while Stockstill pitched and played second base in 1971, the final season before the program went on a four-decade hiatus. Compagnone was among the first players recruited when the program was revived, while Werts was a two-time All-KCAC performer - the program's first all-league honoree upon its reinstatement.

The McPherson College Department of Athletics will be grilling out, serving hot dogs and bratwurst free of charge to those in attendance.

At 10-2 overall, McPherson is off to its best start since the program was revived in 2011. Kansas Wesleyan is 9-3 overall after sweeping a doubleheader from Dakota State on Wednesday evening.

A NOTE REGARDING SEATING: The bleachers for the complex have not yet arrived, so spectators will need to bring their lawn chairs!
