ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (macbulldogs.com) --- The final day of the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships got off to an early start for McPherson College as senior
Jonathan Dominguez (Chicago, Ill., Salina South HS) and junior
Jesse Freeman (Castle Rock, Colo., Castle View HS) competed in the marathon at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
Dominguez, who finished 26th in the marathon at last year's championships, rode a steady pace to an 11th place finish in 2 hours, 48 minutes, 21.94 seconds. He was one of five runners from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference - and one of six representing Kansas colleges - in the top 11.
Freeman had a solid pace going as well until struck by cramps at around the 20-mile mark of the grueling 26.2-mile race. He was able to push through and gut out a 40th-place finish in 3:14:38.32.
The remainder of Saturday's schedule - including competition by McPherson in the final of the men's 4x100 relay and by
Amy Braimbridge (Connolly, Australia, St. Stephens School) in the final of the women's open 400 - has been delayed by rain and lightning in the vicinity of Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores.
