Hillsboro, Kan. – After opening up the spring portion of their 2020-21 schedule with a pair of Exhibition / Scrimmage contests, the McPherson College men's soccer team played their first countable contest on Saturday, travelling to Hillsboro, Kansas for a non-conference match-up with the Tabor College Bluejays.

The Bulldogs and Bluejays met for their KCAC match-up back in the fall, with the Bulldogs winning at Paul Family Field 1-0. This time, the Bulldogs got the same defensive result, recording the clean sheet, but they doubled their offensive output, scoring a pair of goals.

The Bulldogs dominated the time of possession, but the Bluejays defended hard, and the Bulldogs found themselves locked in a 0-0 tie at the intermission. Out of the break, the Bulldogs finally got on the board on an unassisted goal by Sam Box in the 54th minute. Their second and final goal came 12 minutes later when Sean Thomson served a ball into the box that found Carlos Reyna's head which in turn, found the back of the net.

Jose Alonso and Colby Swift shared time between the pipes for the Bulldogs. Alonso got the start, but Swift played the second half, and picked up the win.

"We had some good moments today, said Bulldog head coach Doug Quint. "Defensively we really found our moments to press together effectively and that helped us control the game. I thought in the final third our timing was off and we just didn't make the best decisions. That's going to continue to get better with time. We controlled things with possession and just need to continue to improve in the final third."

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 7-2-3 on the season. They will get a big test next Saturday when they go on the road to Olathe, Kansas to square off against the Mid-America Nazarene University Pioneers. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
