Bulldogs Win Both Matches in York

York, Neb. – The McPherson College volleyball team picked up a pair of key KCAC wins on Saturday, defeating both the Avila University Eagles, and the York College Panthers in a triangular hosted by York College.

The Bulldogs got down early in the opening match to Avila, and had to come back three times to secure the victory. They got down two sets to one before dominating set three, winning 25-14. Then in set 4 they trailed the Eagles 20-14 before winning 11 of the final 13 points to win the set 25-22 and force a deciding 5th set. In set 5 the Bulldogs lead 5-3, but then let the Eagles go on a 9-4 run to go up 14-7. The MC ladies fought back again, this time saving six match points and winning nine points in a row to win the set 16-14.

The second match against York was anticlimactic as the Bulldogs won in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.

The Bulldog defense came up big, especially against the Eagles. They recorded a total of 133 defensive digs in the two matches.

Offensively, the Bulldogs finished with 94 kills on 270 attempts with 38 errors, giving them a .207 hitting percentage

The Bulldogs assisted on 89 of their 94 kills.

With the wins, the Bulldogs find themselves at 14-7 overall, and 11-4 in the KCAC. They are scheduled to play St. Mary on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Sport Center.
