Mobile, Ala. – The McPherson College men's tennis team is back in Mobile, Alabama this week, taking part in the NAIA National Tournament. The Bulldogs clinched a berth in the National Championships by winning the KCAC Tournament two weeks ago. The Bulldogs defeated the Ottawa University Braves 4-0 in the title match to punch their ticket to Mobile.

For the Bulldog men this is their sixth trip to the Gulf Coast for the NAIA National Championships. They made their first trip back in 2015, and that started a string of five consecutive appearances. That streak was broken up last year by COVID-19 when all spring sports were cancelled.

The Bulldogs finished 2021 with an overall record of 14-1, and they were perfect in KCAC matches, winning the regular season title as well, going 7-0. In the final NAIA top 25 Coaches' poll, the Bulldogs were receiving votes, just out of the top 25 by three spots. They enter the national tournament as the 23 seed.

The Bulldogs' opening round match at nationals is today at 1:30, against the Union College Bulldogs from Barbourville, Kentucky. The Union Bulldogs come into the championships as the #10 team in the final top 25 Coaches' poll, finishing the year with an 8-7 overall record, and a 5-1 mark in their conference.

The winner of today's opening round match has a date with 7th seeded Xavier University out of Louisiana on Wednesday at 1:00 pm.
