Hillsboro, Kan. – After a pair of exhibition matches earlier in the week, the McPherson College tennis teams got back to their KCAC matches with a road trip to Hillsboro, Kansas for a matchup with the Tabor College Bluejays. The Bulldog men were undefeated coming into the match with Tabor, and the women hadn't lost a conference match in nearly a month. Those streaks remained intact as the women defeated the Bluejays 5-2 and the men shut them out 7-0.
The Bulldog women opened the match with a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point. The Bulldogs picked up wins at no. 2 and no. 3 to win the point. In Singles, the Bulldogs' experience shone through. They won four of the six matches, but only one of them was a route, and that was Grace Maxey's 6-1, 6-1 win at no. 3. At no. 5 and no. 6 where the Bulldogs have won matches rather easily this season, this time they had to work to earn the wins. In the end, Kayla Ortiz and Kendra Maples, who are by now seasoned veterans were able gut two important wins.
Below are the women's scores.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs continue to be at the top of their game. Against the Bluejays, they won all nine matches played, and started by securing the doubles points by winning all three doubles matches. Jakob Komel and Trey Murphy who have been a little snake bit in the last few matches got off to a good start on Wednesday and picked up a big 7-5 win at no. 1.
In singles, the only match that was relatively close was at no. 1. The Bluejays have a talented player from France on the 1 line and he and the Bulldogs' Michael Beltran had a battle. They split sets with Michael winning the first 6-2, but dropping the second 7-5. By the time their match reached the third set, the dual had been decided so the final set was played as a "super" tiebreaker which Michael won 10-8. In the rest of the singles matches, the Bulldogs won in straight sets and lost a grand total of

"Great showing from our teams today," said Coach President. "We say it all the time it's not how you start but how you finish, and coming to the end of regular season this is the energy and focus we need. We are all excited and energized going into our final regular season match!"
The Bulldogs are scheduled to wrap up this busy week with Senior Day on Saturday against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders at 3:30 pm. However, mother-nature may have other plans. Stay tuned as an announcement about the match will be made later this week.
