ROME, Ga. — A pair of McPherson College doubles teams traveled to Rome, Ga., to compete in the ITA Cup, with Michael Beltran and Martin Millos finishing 1-2, while Taimi Nashiku and Camila Sanchez went 0-3 on the trip.
The men dropped their first match to Laurenz Flender and Perry Gregg from Holy Cross College in a third set tiebreaker 10-8, after winning the first set 7-6. Beltran and Millos got in the win column with a 2-0 sweep over a duo from Cumberland University, winning 6-4, 7-6.
The pair then squared off against Hugo Abril and Jonas Wand from Arizona Christian University, winning the first set 6-1 but dropping the second set 7-6, before falling 10-6 in the third set tiebreaker.
On the women's side, Sanchez and Nashiku lost their first match 6-1, 6-2 to LSU-Alexandria. The duo then took on Lena Golz and Paula Velayos from Middle Georgia State, but fell 6-3, 6-1.
Sanchez and Nashiku's third match of the week was a rematch of the ITA Regional semifinals as they took on Marta Calvo Larraz and Hanna Lindeboom from William Woods. However, the Owls would avenge their 9-8 loss to the MC pairing with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
ITA national rankings will come out on Nov. 16.
