WINFIELD, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs comeback bid came up just short Saturday (Oct. 7), falling 4-3 to the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in Winfield, Kan.
Nathan Van Wyck put the Bulldogs on the board first in the sixth minute, firing a shot from the top of the 18-yard box past KJ Masso.
But the Builders leveled the score when Mamadou Diarra scored the first of his three goals for the game.
Anthony Pereira gave the Bulldogs the 2-1 advantage heading into the break with his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The Builders tied the game early in the second frame, then scored a pair of goals in the 78th minute and the 85th minute, respectively to blow the game wide open.
Diego Santibanez cut the Builder lead to 4-3 just 23 seconds later, assisted by Sergio Najera, but the Bulldogs were unable to find one more goal late.
The Bulldogs scored three goals on five shots. Kyle Barron made four saves.
MC will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 11) to take on Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
