FREMONT, Neb. — The McPherson College Bulldogs men's tennis swept the weekend at the Nebraska Invite, knocking off (RV) the Midland University Warriors 4-3 on Saturday before routing the Doane University Tigers on Sunday. The women's tennis Bulldogs fell 6-1 to Midland but rallied to take down Doane 7-0.
The Warriors got up early on Saturday, stealing the doubles point, but wins by Oscar Brouwer (7-5, 6-3) and Celien Botlan (6-3, 6-2) put the Bulldogs on top. Michael Beltran tied it, winning in straight sets (7-6, 6-4), then Marcus Nardy gave the Bulldogs the win in the final match of the day.
On the Women's side, the Bulldogs snatched the doubles point Saturday, with the pair of Kendra Maples and Grace Maxey winning 6-4 and the team of Kayla Ortiz and Camila Sanchez taking care of business 6-3.
But the Warriors swept the rest of the way.
Things went well for the Bulldogs on Sunday with both sides sweeping Doane.
The Bulldogs hit the road again on Tuesday (Feb. 28) as they head to Topeka, Kan. to take on Washburn. Their home opener is slated for Friday (Mar. 3) at the Bulldog Tennis Center.
