KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The McPherson College softball team took game one 1-0 but fell in the second half of the doubleheader Thursday (Apr. 13) to come away with the split to Avila University in Kansas City, Mo.
Tatyana Alvarado finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in the opener for the Bulldogs while scoring the lone run.
That run came in the top of the first inning, as she got the game started with a leadoff single to centerfield before stealing second. Lacy Weaver moved Alvarado to third with a single of her own, then Alvarado scored on a throwing error by the Eagles' catcher.
Raegan Kleppe was dialed in for the Bulldogs in the circle, throwing seven shutout innings with three strikeouts while allowing just three hits.
The Eagles scored three runs in the second, three more in the fourth, and closed out the win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bulldogs are back at Bulldog Park on Saturday (Apr. 15) for a doubleheader against the KCAC's top team, (17) Ottawa University. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
