Cheer Finishes Fifth, Dance Sixth at Benedictine Challenge

ATCHISON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs Cheer and Dance squads traveled to Atchison, Kan. Sunday (Feb. 18) for the Benedictine Challenge.

The Bulldogs cheer team finished with a score of 63.08 to finish fifth over Oklahoma Panhandle State (55.09) and Graceland University (41.54). MC was just four points short of fourth place, with Peru State finishing with a score of 67.60 points.

Missouri Valley took the top spot with a score of 87.89, while Ottawa University came in second, scoring 79.83 points.

"The team continues to impress me with their ability to increase their performance level every time they compete," head cheer coach Krista Williams said.  "They worked hard this past week and it showed on the mat."

In the dance competition, the Bulldogs scored a season-high 51.97, which was their highest score over the past two seasons. Fellow KCAC foe Ottawa finished just ahead of the Bulldogs, scoring 62.77 points.

St. Ambrose won the event with a score of 81.23 points, while Graceland finished second, scoring 73.23 points.

"This competition was new and tough, but I am proud of my team for giving it their all," head dance coach Kananda Skinner said.  "We learned a lot and can't wait to apply it to our next competition."

Both teams will be back in action for a virtual competition on Mar. 1. Cheer will compete against Hasting College and Morningside University, while Dance will face Hastings and Mount Marty University.
